Our NJ Asbestos Testing Services
When to get an asbestos inspection
Properties built before the 1970s in the US have a chance of containing asbestos.
If you plan to perform any kind of renovation or demolition work, you need to be sure the project will not disturb any Asbestos Containing Materials.
If the work area is found to contain asbestos hazards, the law requires a property owner to have it safely and professionally abated or removed in order to proceed with your renovations.
When selling or leasing, an asbestos report can make the property more appealing to buyers or lessees.
How we test for asbestos
Bulk material sampling
We mostly use polarized light microscopy to test mineral-specific properties in fibers. Transmission electron microscopy is used when needed.
We perform air sampling to confirm all asbestos and residue are gone. This prevents cross-contamination.
We test surfaces for asbestos dust using tape-lift, micro-vacuum, wipe, or other methods.

Who can perform asbestos testing in NJ?
You can’t hire just anybody as an asbestos inspector. You need licensed asbestos professionals like us!
It is illegal in NJ to hire untrained employees or firms for work on Asbestos Containing Materials, including:
- Inspections and tests
- Management plans
- Removal and abatement
- General contracting (renovations, etc.) that disturbs asbestos
This ensures both your safety and that of the employees!
What does asbestos look like?
Chrysotile (white asbestos), Crocidolite (blue asbestos), and Amosite (brown asbestos) are the most common types of asbestos. Some types resemble bundles of fibers, while others are more spiky.
However, this is at a microscopic level. You won’t be able to see it with the naked eye, as it will be within the building material. A professional asbestos test is the only way to confirm suspected asbestos material.
Where is asbestos commonly found in the home?
Asbestos can be found in many materials and locations, both indoors and outdoors. It was often used as insulation or to strengthen other construction materials.
In older homes, asbestos products can be in:
- Pipes, insulation, ducts
- Boiler rooms, water heater
- Basements, attics, crawlspaces
- Floor tile, vinyl flooring
- Siding, shingles, roofing
- Popcorn ceilings, ceiling tile
- Spray-on and textured paints
- Construction glues and adhesives
- Appliance gaskets (oven doors, etc)

Is asbestos illegal in New Jersey?
Yes, New Jersey has banned the sale and distribution of asbestos. There is currently no complete federal asbestos ban, although its use and handling are now subject to tight regulations.
It’s not illegal to have old Asbestos Containing Material (ACM) in your property, but it does pose a health risk, particularly if the material is friable or already damaged.
However, if you plan to engage in projects such as renovations, you must check whether the materials to be disturbed contain asbestos.
What are the health risks of asbestos exposure?
Once a popular construction material, asbestos fibers are now known to be detrimental to human health. Asbestos exposure is linked to mesothelioma and other types of lung conditions such as pleural plaques.
The risk is greater with long term exposure, which is why the law protects anyone working with asbestos. It also protects you, the consumer, from improperly conducted asbestos contracting and contamination of your home.
How long does an asbestos inspection take?
Every home asbestos inspection is unique! While it’s not possible to provide a one-size fits all answer, our testing and inspection services can be done in as little as 1-2 days.
Similarly, the price of an asbestos test will depend on many variables, such as the square footage of the affected area as well as the types and number of samples our technicians need to take.
